Remote Controlling Separates

Just got a universal remote (Sony RM-VL600) and it's working really well so far, (other than the fact that Harmon Kardon has a separate button their remote for 'on' and 'off') but I will have challenge hooking up a separate amp with no remote.

I have an HK3480 with a switched 120V oulet but they recommend it is only for low current draw items under 100 watts like CD players etc. NOT I assume for a 150 w/channel amp.

What options are there for controlling a separate amp with a remote? Amp is ATI AT1502.

Thanks

Amp 12V trigger

Does that amp have an input for a 12V trigger?
If so, you can use it to turn on the amp. Look for a 12V trigger ouput on the receiver. If it doesn't have one, you can make one by connecting a low power (250-500ma) 12V wall transformer to the receivers switched outlet on the receiver.

Some amps also have the capability to detect when a signal is present (or not) and go in and out of standbye mode. This feature may make the trigger unnecessary.

No such features I can find. Any other options?

What amp?

What is the model of the amp?
Almost all of them have a 12V trigger input. Many look like a small headphone type jack.

It's a couple year old ATI 1502. Their current model has the feature but this one doesn't. I see what they look like on other models but don't see the 12 V trigger outlet as you described.

Any other options?

This suggestion came from the person I purchasdthe ATI 1502 from. It includes the 12V trigger linked below but would also use a 12V adapter the plugged into the switched outlet on the HK3480. When the 3480 was powered on, the switched outlet would activate the 12V adapter, which would act as a trigger for the Russound Act-1 which is plugged into, and getting its power from, a normal 120V receptacle. This allows the low wattage switched oultlet on the 3480 to be bypassed and the normal house current tobe used.

Haven't tried it yet but should work and I hope that helps some one in the future.

I have the same issue with the older Parasound HCA1000....no trigger. My case is that i have 4 amps...and need a way to turn it on remotely. Now i have to open the closet to turn it on.
