I cut my "real" reading teeth on the Tom Swift Jr. series

Cool man ..the first Tom Swift was piublished in 1910; if you read it new you beat me and are "the king of the old f*rts".

I remember Tom Swift series ( and Nancy Drew for girls) but my paatitude fro reading back then was not very good. I tried to read a couple of Hardy Boy books; don't think I even got through one. I read much, much more now...especailly mystery and detective series. Not much for fantasy or occult or horror. ..Also read a LITTLE audio and a LITTLE automotive

Please note the "Jr." after Tom Swift. This was a different, but related, series and came out in the 50's. I think that's what got me started onScience fiction. Asimov was a god in my estimation.

I kicked my kids into the backyard the other day so they couldn't sit around and play computer games or the xbox. At first they were like a deer in headlights without their electronics (and this is at 5 & 6 yrs old). Then they found they could do the most amazing things with some sticks, a ball, and imagination.

I remember when we had to use imagination because high technology was the Apple IIe. That's how old I am.

People today are flabbergasted when I say I was sincerely happy to turn my Blackberry in and go cell phone free.

I remember when we had to use imagination because high technology was the Apple IIe. That's how old I am.

The Apple IIe was my first exposure to computers and programming. It was 1980 (9th grade), the class was called 'computer math' and we learned the BASIC programming language.

I remember enough of the things on the list to qualify as 'old as dirt' but if you do the math from the hint above you can see that I'm not that old.

- WRT the 'mystery' type books (Hardy Boys, Nancy Drew) does anyone remember Encyclopedia Brown? I read every one of those books in elementary school.

- WRT home delivery, does anyone remember Charles' Chips? They used to deliver large tins of potato chips and pretzels.
