Relevance of the Oscars

Is it me, or did last night's Oscars snub alot of films. I personally felt Tron got robbed. It feels like the Academy and the rest of Hollywood just doesn't get it. How can Toy Story 3 been a contender for Best Picture? How do they come up with these recommendations, and then pick the winners.

I know, I know. I told myself back in 2001 I would no longer care about the Oscars after Final Fantasy: Spirits Within didn't even get a nomination. But every now and then I have to ask, is it just me or does anyone else not give two cents about the Oscars.

The Oscars are a peer award. There are many comparable things, but receiving an award from your peers is one of the highest honors. What Engineer wouldn't want to be recognized by a group of them for a great accomplishment.

Normally all the movies nominated are pretty good. Tron and Toy Story 3 are fun, but they aren't exactly groundbreaking.

I thought TS3 was only a contender for best ANIMATED film (which it won), not best film.

I only pay attention to see what Scarlett Johanson is wearing. I didn't like her choice of hair style but I only noticed once the entertainment rags zoomed on on her head.

I find most award shows to be boring and well not as entertaining as hearing a little kid grunt from the bathroom and say "I have a really big poop."

I stopped watching them a long time ago. It is no longer about acting ability but rather just a popularity contest. I once heard one of the people who get to vote say they don't even have to watch the film to vote on it. WTF?

I was disappointed in the presentation of the Oscars as I didn't care for th hosts to much. I was also upset that The Fighter or True Grit didn't win best picture.
