Audiophyte
Hi folks. I'm a newbie. First time posting. From the caliber of discussion I've read on this forum I'd put myself in the category of "audio enthusiast" as opposed to "audiophile". I'm looking to upgrade my system with a turntable. Really believe analog does sound better. Something like Neil Youngs "harvest moon" or Mark Knopffler and The Notting Hillbillies "go your own sweet way" just deserves that little tweak that really let's it shine. Learned a few things along the way through woodworking, maintaining my own vehicles and my love of music. Save up. Research. Buy the best quality you can afford. I'm currently looking at the Rega RP1 "performance pack" turntable. $4400 on the competition is a wee bit too rich for me... I know as much as possible I need to isolate the table from vibration. 24volt external motor and locating the unit away from my drivers on a stable platform makes sense to me. Differences in tone arm design etc. is over my head at the moment. And as useful as the web can be for research? There's a lot of malarkey to sort through. What I'm looking for is genuine feedback from owners on this forum visa vie the practical sonic accuracy of an RP1PP,RP3,6 etc. and the competition. Price cap is around $1200. RP1 I'm looking at is $650ish. Any help you can give me is very much appreciated. I LOVE this forum!!!!!!!!!!
Current system; Emotiva Fusion 8100 (replacing a Pioneer VSX1019-AHK), Emotiva XPA-5 external amp, B+W 686 fronts, B+W 683's X 4 and center channel, B+W ASW610 powered sub. Panasonic TC-P50S60 plasma. If (when) Emotiva nails their flagship receiver built in Tennessee? I'm probably upgrading. And yah I know. Emotiva is like The Rolling Stones. You love 'em. Or hate 'em. I'm a Leaf fan by birth. We're used to it. Bruins by nature. Thanks.
