At $500, there many subs that perform better. Also the company seems a little strange with distribution

$500!!?? I paid CAN$300 for mine, so you should be able to get it for about $250 in the US. At that price it's a good deal. I agree that at US$500, there are superior products.
I like mine very much. I did some rough measurements with my trusty RS SPL meter and the reponse was fairly flat down to about 30 Hz in my living room. There was a bit of a hump at about 60 Hz, if I recall correctly. I know that won't impress anybody, but I use mine with my stereo for music only, so if you aren't into pipe organ music, it performs well. This was 2 or 3 months ago, so I can't remember precisely. I wrote my measurements down, so I'll have a look for them later and get back to you.
If you want it for HT and like to shake the pictures off the wall, I suggest looking at something else. If it's for music and you don't need to make your ears bleed, it's a great product (not for $500 though!). Let's face it - there isn't much truely deep bass in most pop/rock music.
