Red and Blue dominating the screen

My neighbor's tv (no really, it's my neighbors) is a Hitachi 52" DLP; for a while now he has had a huge red band running vertically through the center of his screen, now he has a blue one on the left side of his screen (also vertical). my best guess is that his bulb is going, but I'm not sure; alright smart guys and/or gals what do you think?

thanks

A bad bulb would not cause that issue. The bulb can only cause a darker screen eventually leading to black when it goes out.

The problem is most likely in the circuitry that controls the color wheel and DLP chip or video processing.
