Record cleaning

I have used isoprohyl alcohol on a fiber record brush to clean a record. Many have advised me that is bad for the phongraph record. I have been doing this for many years cleaning the records after about 2-3 plays. These recordings are relatively noise free and sound fine. Any comments?

After a while Alcohol can break down the vinyl. You are really supposed to use 25% Isopropyl with water and a little surfacant.....

If you don't want to mix your own solution, try buying a Discwasher D4 kit. It is now made in China as best I can tell, and not by the original Discwasher company, FWIW, but should still do a good job. Don't use plain alcohol as Jamie2112 said.

Back in the pre-CD days, the most popular cleaning solution other than detergent and water was 50% water and 50% Everclear (legal moonshine.)
