I have been reading through a number of the posts as well as the buyers guide, and am trying to narrow down a receiver that is $500-1000.
Primary use will be multimedia. Current speaker setup is def. tech and JVC, but I am also looking to replace them after the receiver. I am planning to go with bookshelf speakers.
Requirements that I can think of are:
- TV supports Deepcolor
- Ability to plugin at least 2 HDMI, although 3 would be nice
- Minimum 5.1, but 7.1/7.2 would be ideal
- TrueHD, DTS-HD (MA), I believe getting a receiver that can decode the HD audio standards is better than relying on the DVD player to do so is the right decision
- Seems like HDMI repeating
- Up conversion not required unless better than getting an up-converting player, or blu-ray. Current dvd player is fairly old.
Going by the reviews and comments on the Yamaha RX-v863(663) it would be a good choice. If you are going to spend $900 on the 863, is there a better option for few $ more?
