Recommendation for Av receiver

Okay went a little off topic but thats ok still in need of recommendations for a receiver thanks guys.

Good evening .......

Your choice of Speakers is very good. What you want to do is to match your amplifier to the speaker's power handling at specific ohm and here's why

Generally speaking ypu can never have too much power and unless you plan on cranking your speakers up to levels that cause your ears to bleed, you typically won't have any problems.

What damages speakers a great deal more than too much power is too little power. When you really drive a pair of speakers by turning them up to a level higher than the amplifier is capable of, the amplifier will begin to clip. Clipped waveforms create great amounts of heat and can damage tweeters and midrange drivers far faster then you ever would by sending lots of high quality power to them. The best way to ensure this never happens is to always provide good, clean power by a large high quality power amplifier .

As a rule of thumb, use an amplifier rated at 1.5 to 2 times more power than a speaker's power rating. The idea is to have enough clean power to handle whatever you throw at the amp without clipping.

That being said, My recommendation would be to look at either Integra Denon or Marantz

Alright I have narrowed down my choices to the following Onkyo tx-sr707, Denon 2310ci, Marantz sr 5004 and for some reason I just can't give up on the Pioneer vsx-21txh I like to hear your opinions on the these or if you think I should look at something else any all advice given will be taken seriously, Thank You.

Top two : Onkyo 707 and Marantz 5004

And the winner is: Marantz

JMHO YMMV ( Your Mileage May Vary) .. in other words you may have
a different opinion which is okay

If I may be so bold as to ask why the Marantz. I pride myself in getting as much knowledge as possible on a product. So if you are willing to share your thoughts on the Marantz I am willing to listen.

The 4 you've settled on are all good. I doubt you'll ever detect a difference in sound quality between them. Take a good look at the features each have keeping in mind what you will be connecting.

The only one I'd be hesitant about buying is the Denon - any Denon - but only because the user's manuals are so bizarre.

Thanks Knucklehead90 for the advice but is there one model that sticks out more than the others in your mind.

The Onkyo 707.

I don't know about the other models but the 707 has some very nice features like Audyssey MultEQ Dynamic EQ for Loudness Correction and Dynamic Volume. It also has the very good Burr Brown 192K/24 Bit DAC. The Faroujda DCDi video processor is very good too. Don't expect it to work wonders but it upscales video as good as any mass produced video chip.

The 707 also has preamp out jacks so you can add an amp if you wish for more power. I don't think you'll find all that in any of the others you are considering. The 707 is the sweet spot in the Onkyo lineup. If I weren't waiting for the Emotiva UMC-1 I might have the SR707 as it does everything I need.

The Marantz 5003 and 5004 have preouts as well.

The 707 also has 2 more HDMI ports. The Marantz 5003 lack Dynamic EQ loudness correction and Dynamic Volume - and neither have the Burr-Brown DACs. The 707 is the mid priced AVR to beat as far as I'm concerned. I've not seen any other receiver it its price point with all these features.

What you need to determine is what other equipment do you want to hook up to your receiver ? Do you want to go hdmi, component or a mix of the 2?

That will help you determine the number of input required. From there you can narrow down your choices.

Denon has superb audio and video scaling. Easy to setup very solid product.

Marantz always been known for their audio quality, . LIke i explained before just make sure that the receiver you will choose have at least 1.5 to 2 times the power than your speaker's power rating

Should you need further help do not hesitate to send me a PM

Thanks to all of you for the advice, The Yammys didn't make my list because from every bench test I could find on any of their models they always seem to not deliver as much wpc as claimed. if they missed the mark by 20 watts I could live that but they always seem to fall short by more than that, hence they didn't make my list. Everything I own use's HDMI I don't use any other type of connection What I would hook up the receiver will PS3,stand alone blu-ray player and of course the TV.

From what I recall, Audioholics always seems to be impressed with Yamaha on the bench. Heck, my old low-mid-fi 1400 drove five 4ohm 87dB speakers for a year without ever shutting down. I upgraded just to upgrade.

Most people into audio enough to be on a forum will want to add a separate amp to their receiver in the near future after set-up. With that in mind, the bench test of a mid-fi receivers amp section is pretty much useless. On the other hand, ALL receiver brands claiming 100+ x 5/7 are FOS. And, most claiming 100+ x 5/7 are pretty much equal in power.

I could get my budget to $1200 but from what I saw it's closer to $1800 unless you know of a sale or somthing because I can't swing $1800 for receiver at the moment.

Okay why Marantz ? I like both and I was down to two choices Marantz and Onkyo. I had previously chosen Marantz and then had a lot of Yamaha and Pioneer AVRs in between. By the way the my previous Marantz 1060 still works and is 30+ years old. It was quality and reliable back then and still is.

I like the processing controls, audessy and auto select with the Marantz. Specifically the 5003 has these features: (in red those I like)

Sophisticated new aluminum/reinforced resin front panel
High Bit Rate Audio capability: Dolby TrueHD, dts-HD Master Audio
HDMI v1.3a repeating (3 in/1 out)
Audyssey MultEQ
M-DAX for compressed audio
10bit Video converter to HDMI (interlaced to progressive and scaler) Dual component video output
Analog and digital multi-zone outputs
In-line seven channel amplifiers/High definition audio design
New FL display
Updated backlit Learning remote controller
<16" Shallow chassis
Various control interfaces: RS-232C, Flasher-in, DC trigger
Multiple radio system (AM/FM/XM/SIRIUS)
Available Option Rack Mount Kit RMK6504SR

You have Pre-outs on all 7.1 channels so you can easily add an external amp if more power is needed.

AM/FM tuners have very good specs:
FM S/N 75 (mono) 70(stereo)
AM S/N 50

Onkyo is also very good, just Marantz is my preference.

if your cabinet space is confined, Onkyo AVRs tend to run hot.

Good Luck!
