Recommend me an Amp for a B&W 802N

Hello,

So I'm looking at getting a B&W 802N speakers second hand, and I need to take into account the other parts needed to make this a good first system.
Mostly would be used for music listening.

The specs say this speaker needs between 50-500watts per speaker.

I would be looking for something second hand to save a bit.

What would you experienced people recommend ?
I would also need some help with other things like the DAC, reciever and cables. Not sure if we can discuss in this section of the forum.

I'm in Australia sydney. So that will be kind of difficult. List what would be a good setup and if it's not too expensive I might buy new. But if I find second hand at a good bargain then I would get that

I would just get an AVR with 100-150WPC into 8 ohms, something like the Denon X3100, X3200, X4000, X4100, X4200.

When I had the B&W 802 D2, I tried it out on my Denon AVR-3312 and it sounded great.

Nope. Does not need to be. You can go all separates if you feel like it. But if that is the case, then buy a pre-pro + amp.

I've listened to my 802D2 w/ the Denon 3312 and they sounded great. I didn't need to give anyone any excuses about how the speakers could sound better with more power. No excuses.

So you think a denon x4000 would be enough? Cause then it would save me about $1500-2000 going with avr instead of separating

I don't know those speakers, but the beauty of buying an AVR like the X4000 is if you decided you did need a separate amp, it has pre-outs and will make a great pre-amp! IOW, there is no real risk of getting stuck with something that will not work.

In the American market, I would lean towards the X4100W because the difference in price is not much and the 4100W offers wi-fi and a few other upgrades.

On the other hand, if you know you will not use dual subs, you can drop to the 3000 series. Just make sure you have pre-outs in case you believe the amplification is wanting. ADTG seems to have a pretty good handle on the Denon AVR's (which I would recommend as well) and can point out which represent the better values.
Unless he was in a small room and you are in a significantly larger one, you should not need more power than ADTG had.

Maybe that's the way to go for now.
Denon x4000 and as I build up funds I can invest in separate amps in the long run.

I have an X4000. And I have a 5x200wpc amp. My suggestion is to get the X4000 or 4100, and "build up" enough funds that you could flush them down the toilet and not miss them before you "invest in separate amps".

I cannot hear a difference with or without the separate amp. I have it because I'm hard headed enough to never be convinced until I heard it for myself, and because I had the extra $ to flush.
