Got my first Home theater setup for Christmas as a gift from family. What I received was much more than i expected (I just wanted a simple HTIB, I live in an apartment), so heres a list of what I received, and you guys can tell me if I should keep or exchange for same price range or less.
I will try to make this simple, I will also post what I am looking at. I'm new to all this so I will do my best.

What I received....haven't set anything up.

Denon AVR-887 (don't mind, but the remote is horrid)
KEF KHT-3005 speakers (nice, almost too nice)
Sony DVP-NS75H dvd (happy, actually wanted this)

In all honesty, I would be happy with something much less expensive. The Sony is most likely staying, and possibly the speakers. I personally couldn't see myself spending that kind of cash on a speaker setup.

I really just want to change out the receiver, and possibly the speakers to something less expensive but great quality. I'm looking at the Onkyo TH-SR674, which i feel would be a great receiver for this setup.
I will only be connecting a HD-STB and DVD.

Thanks for the opinions guys, love the forum, tons of information. I'm interested in learning all I can.

Recommend away!!

I would keep what you got! That's a nice setup. The only bad thing about Denon, is their remotes. They can be a nightmare to learn. Get a Logitech Harmony remote, and life will be simple again. :)

If it was a gift, why in the world, do you want to trade it for something less? Most of us wants the best we can get. Enjoy your gift!

Speakers are the actual "sound", of any system. They should be 2/3 to 3/4 of the total cost of your system. You could change receivers, and not notice much difference, if any, in the sound. You change the speakers, and you definately notice a big difference in the sound.

Appreciate the fact that someone thought enough of you, to give you a pretty good system, and enjoy it! Maybe that disease, we all suffer from (upgrade-itis), won't affect you for awhile...........
