Recievier with HDMI versions 1.1 or wait for 1.3

Hello there, I'm all set to buy my first suround receiver and was looking at the Denon 2807 as it has the HDMI inputs and outputs, but they are only vs 1.1.

From the reading I've been doing about the new HD dvd and blue ray dvd players they will recquire the 1.3 version.

Should I wait for receivers to come with the newer hdmi or will it really matter if you plug a 1.3 DVD player into a 1.1 reciever?

Thanks for the help.

If it was me I would NOT wait. I would use all my savings and max out all my high intrest credit and get the best, spare no expense, already obsolete HDMI 1.1 reciever money can buy. Then next year when I'm just catching up with the credit I can do it all over again!

HD video and sound are way over rated just ask some of the "A/Vholics" around here (DVD is plenty good).

You should just keep what you have now. If you have anything workable you should be set to wait for the CE people to get their act together. I need to upgrade also but they will not get one penny from me until they produce something with good compatibility and reasonable shelf life. Witch is not yet.

:( :( Maybe next year!!:( :(

But to answer your question. If you want to transfer the signal digitally of the new high resolution surround formats on HD/BLU the reciever needs HDMI 1.3 to function with the audio.

If you want a fully capable Receiver then you'll have to wait not only for the HDMI 1.3 but also till they get the new decoding chips into them for all the new audio formats.

cheers:)

If you can wait, wait. If not, find the most inexpensive unit that will fit your needs for the next couple of years till the technologies stabilize.

Well, in theory many of the nicer manufacturers are at least downconverting the HD or unsupported streams to PCM - which is supported in HDMI 1.0 and 1.1 just fine. So you're not left out in the cold by any means - depending upon what equipment you have.

Make no mistake HDMI 1.1 IS obsolete

That's true Shokhead. A more true statement would be people CONTINUE to get screwed by purchasing HDMI 1.2 or older gear.

Clint aren't you being a little generous? No mention of the cantankerous behaviour of cable boxes and the current gen of recievers.

I have no idea what your talking about:)

To be honest I'm more disappointed than pissed. The current state of HD in general stinks.
