I have a question concerning the Yamaha RX-Z9 versus their newer models.
Here goes:
Is the pre-amp section of the RX-Z9 going to provide me with better sounding audio than say the RX-V4600 or RX-V2500 or RX-V2600.
I have a dedicated Outlaw 770 amp and I feel it to be a possible waste to use the RX-Z9 strictly as a pre-amp. But I have seen on EBAY RX-Z9 recievers (B stock) for around $2,300 dollars. This is a very tempting price to me. I am strongly considering this, provided the pre-amp section of the RX-Z9 will truly provide improved audio.
Your input would be helpfull.

I think the RX-Z9 is over kill for use as a pre-amp only. The RX-V2500 probably has just as good as pre-amp section if not the same. Have you considered the Outlaw Audio 990 pre-amp?

I suspect that you are right about the RX-Z9 being overkill being used just as a pre-amp. I was just really tempted at getting one for $2300.
I am considering the Outlaw 990.
I'm keeping my ears peeled for possible bugs with the Outlaw 990, but from what I've read so far in reviews it's a very good pre-amp.
I have learned through use and reviews that Yamhas are tough to beat.

Thanks,

Kelly :)

Stop listening to your components and listen to the music. You will be happier :D
