Receiver with Pre-outs

It seems you can't get amp pre-outs on Denon for under $1k and it costs $900 on Onkyo to get them. Is it possible to get HD audio decoding, 1080p upscaling, and amp pre-outs on a receiver other than these for under $1k? Am I asking too much? Do I just have to pay more?

I'm pretty sure Yamaha has some offerings around $400-$500 that meet your requirements, or at least most of them. Or you can buy factory refurbished and save a lot and get the features you desire.

The Pioneer Elite VSX-01 also has those features. The Pioneer 1018 had them (I think, but I'm not positive about the 1080p upscaling), but the new 1019 doesn't have pre-outs (which bums me out).

There are tons of them below $1k.

You just don't look at the right places.

About an Onkyo TX-SR706 to match with your Klipsch speakers?
Only $500 at accessories 4 less, if you don't mind Onkyo Factory Reconditioned,
with one full year warranty. It's also THX Select2 Plus.

Or would you prefer another alternative; for $700, you can have a Marantz SR6003,
Marantz Certified Refurbished with a full one year warranty.
A very sweet good looking receiver.

And if you let your player decode...

...the high-def audio, you can get the Marantz 6001 for 350. But lots of people seem to want the receiver to do the decoding. Which I don't understand. So I think I'm missing something.

It seems some people are forgetting OP wants upscaling to 1080p as well. The Yamaha RX-V665 is one possibility that I know of pretty much immediately.

B-stock you can get oodles of cool receivers that do all sorts of stuff.

For example.

Yamaha RX-V3800

Wow, thanks guys.

I do not mind factory refurbs at all. Is it just a matter of hunting around or are there places that sell refurbs consistently?

Upscaling and HD audio decoding aren't requirements, just nice to have so my choices of players is more wide open. I think I would rather pay more for a receiver to do the work than a player, I don't know why.

I guess I'll start doing a little more hunting.

I can personally tell you that I really like my RX-V3800. It's got lots of power (for a receiver) and lots of processing that will leave your head spinning. It's also great for a preamp/processor with a very low noise floor, it also looks nice. It doesn't run too hot either. What amplifier will you be connecting to the receiver once you get it and what kind of speakers are we going to be driving?

Why he does I dont understand:confused: Upscale to 1080p, deinterlace to to 1080i with the display seems like a waste;)

Besides the Onkyo 706, the model before it the 705 has pre outs on all channels, decodes the latest HD audio for movies and is around $400:D

Your question has been already answered in post #4 (Accessories 4 less).

I was looking at the Emotiva XPA-5 in the future. I really just want the option of an amp. I currently have a 3.1 Klipsch system that I will be replacing with a Kappa sub and Statements (DIY, here: http://www.geocities.com/cc00541/Statements.html , http://www.geocities.com/cc00541/Statements_Center_Channel.html ) within the next year or so.
Your request has been already taken care of in post #4 (the two receivers mentioned there have both pre-outs for all channels).

But the 705 does not do 1080p, only 720p. The 705 was $499 ($440 at best), but is now sold out.

The 706 does 1080p. And it is available now for $499.

Well, it seems to pass it. Maybe I need to check my projector again?

LOL. Or your brains examined? :D

* It does pass 1080p (Pass Through), but it does not upscale anything higher than 720p. Comprende?

It will be very hard to watch lower resolutions on a large FP. For STB signals that are 1080i, all that needs to be is deinterlaced. If you get something like a JVC, that will deinterlace better than any receiver at your price point, or even at multiples of the price point.

Just forget standard def on a FP. Well, that's my take on it. The higher native resolutions are, IMO, what allows us to go big to begin with.
