I've decided to get these speakers.

I'm now trying to find a receiver that would work well. I'll tell you know that sound quality is a big thing for me but am on a budget.

I think i've narrowed it down to these two, but other suggestions are welcome. :)

.....Roar, welcome to Audioholics, and as much as I wish I could help you, I can't, due to unfamiliarity of the products you're pointed out....I have seen the JBL Northridge speakers discussed here before, and I suspect someone will be along soon to help you with some answers.....

Thanks for the welcome. Please feel free to name some other stuff too though. I just found this stuff in an amazon.com search.

Ew! Stay away from JBL northridge. Only consider the Studios or higher.

So by looking at your choices you are going for a stereo setup?

.....Roar, if you want to get some sounds going quick, these are well thought of at this site....you can get four of them for about $240, and add a center of the same line for another $105....that would give you 5 quality speakers for surrounds/rears, fronts, and center....read the reviews at amazon on these speakers, and hopefully others here will make comments.....

Roar,

Welcome to AH. Few questions?

What end result are you looking to achieve?

What is you primary budget +/-100$

Online only or are there dealers nearby?

I agree BIC is a good choice for a low budget but if you can pump more out look into Definitive, Energy, Athena, Axiom... to name a few. Online only groups give out 30day in home trials and full refunds so its a win win. Local dealers are an easy person to turn to for help and are locally available.

I would say go for the Onkyo, but instead of the 8211, do the 8511, more power for those large towers.

.....yes, and what you would have as a surround system would smoke the pants off of the two you were considering up front, can I get an Amen, Guys?.....Roar, the three components you menioned in your first post I figured at amazon to end up being right at $550 to your door....the five speakers I suggested to your door would now run about $375 'cause you waited too long, you goose, and now the four Bic 62si's have to be ordered from Beach Audio and you'd have to pay about 42-44 bucks for shipping....don't worry, Amazon ran out of those about a month ago, and had more in a week....anyhow, the center and four normally run from Amazon exactly $344.95, and that would leave $205.05 from your original post for a decent 5.1 receiver....Roar, listen up....ole' mule advises you to do this....first, put the links I'm going to post in your favorites-list, and check it every day....when Amazon gets more BIC 62si speakers in for $119.98 a pair with free shipping, from Amazon not Beach Audio, order two pair and a center speaker with free shipping also for $344.95....in the meantime, I'll turn it over to some of these smelly receiver hawks at this site to find you a decent 5.1 receiver for $205.05.....

.....Roar, let's say you snooze, you lose, you goose....what?....I'm a double-goose right back???....Roar, them's fightin' words, how big an ole' boy are ya'?....huh?....(shoot, I feel good this mornin')....(some of them there young guys on the extra-board got rested at just the right times last night for me not to get called, haha)....(shore do love this supplemental-board that has a guarantee/work or not)....gone to eat cheap Chinese at a place that has about six GREAT entrees....last time I was in there, I broke open my fortune cookie when I was through eating, and the fortune said, "THAT WASN'T CHICKEN"....still confused over that one....it's a nice day, get out and enjoy it, and don't forget to be thankful for all things good......

Speakers are nice, though I would stay away from the receiver. Look at the Pioneer VSX-1015TXK instead.

I usually play all my music from my computer. I just plug a cord into my headphone jack that splits into the red an white audio. Is there something else I should be doing? My way seems pretty ghetto.

.....Roar, I don't have a clue when you get a computer involved for audio through Home Theater components....but whatever you were going to do with the three items in your original post, you could now do with added surrounds and center for the same price......

Sorry I wasn't clear. But I usually run a cord from my computer to the receiver. Until my early 70s reciever fell apart.

.....then it appears it's time to jack it up and drive a new one under it, huh?....Roar, you get whatever trips your trigger, Buddy, it's your money....but in my experience, rear speakers with a stereo-quad setup, or quad speakers with a center speaker for clarity of voices and solidity across the front soundstage in a 5.1 setup with a 5 channels of amplification, rips only two speakers up front a brand new one....and sure, bringing sources out of the computer negates the need for seperate source components, but I'm not sure the seperate component sources aren't worth it in the quality factor dept....Roar, let us know what you do, or we'll find your mangy butt, and you don't want that, 'cause we'll bring Sheep with us......
