receiver vs sep amps

I have a yamaha rx-a2060 receiver
i also have an adcom gfa555, gfa545 and a rotel rb-956ax 6 channel amp
would any of these amps be worth using with pre out on my receiver ? or should I use the built in amps
my speakers are
fronts - energy c-8 floor standing @ 90db
rears - paradigm reference studio 20 v2
centre - paradigm reference v2
surround - polk RTi4
sub - klipsh synergy 12" powered

So, you have these amps on hand? Have you tried hooking them up? To me, that would be a great way to find out if they are "worth using". If that GFA-555 is operating in spec, it is an excellent amp indeed.

As John said, hook them up to find out. If they are still on spec then they will sound just as good and will help the receiver off some load. If not, you may hear the difference in a negative way, then just disconnect them.

May not make a difference except in load on the avr's power supply, but if you have them one way to find out if you prefer them....

You have them, use them and see. I have separates because I had them and they are powerful, need it or not. But the, you should see them all draw the power when they are idling. ;) Needed fans in the cabinet which I should have don so from the start but they still working with all that hot abuse. :)

We rarely tax our receivers power supply unless your going for big reference volume levels. Bag the receiver and find yourself a good used Lexicon preamp/processor. My ancient MC-8 V2 kicked the absolute crap out of my flagship Pioneer for sound quality.
