Receiver Upgrade or Downgrade?

Hey all - I want to upgrade my receiver to take advantage of some of the new technologies. I'm going from an RX-V2400 which is a great sounding receiver. My question is, would I notice much of a difference in sound going from that to a unit such as the rx-v565 or 665 (or other brands such as onkyo tx-sr507/607, denon avr-590/790...)? What models should I consider in order to keep the same/simila level of sound quality?

as a note, my speakers are some that i built and designed myself. they're about middle of the road in terms of efficiency/difficulty to drive.

Thanks!

I don't know about sound difference but there is a HUGE difference in weight. The RX-V2400 weighs in at 35 lbs and the 665 weighs in at 18.7 lbs. The amp section in the 665 is considerably (120 w for 2400 and 90 w for the 665) smaller and weaker than the 2400.

thanks for the response. I ended up with a denon avr-889 so I feel like that will give me the features I need and be less of a downgrade than the others (more of a lateral move)
