I have a Yamaha RXV 371 receiver that uses spring clips for the surround and center channel connections. I want to use speaker pin plugs but I get a message to check SP connections. Should I go back to using bare wire for the connections?

If the bare wire worked then yes. Did you install the pin plugs after using the same cable with bare wire ends? If you don't plan on changing connections frequently then bare wire should work quite well....

I used bare wire connections for decades because that's what we did back in the day. They work just fine as long as the physical connection is solid and the devices don't move. The physics of a connector don't do squat to the sound as long as its a solid electrical connection. (mapleshade and those types of opinions are excluded)
