Hi everyone!

I hope this post isn't too "noobish" but I'm trying to revamp my living area, and was curious on how I should start out in regards to receivers.

I'm planning on buying a Sony BRAVIA KDL-40V3000 (40" HDTV), but want a nice (Keep it Under $500 if possible) receiver for the speakers I currently have (they're not great but I'll buy those when funds are available next).

I'd preferably like the receiver to support all the latest sound technologies, since I want to start building my entertainment area piece by piece but believe in good foundations.

Does anyone have any recommendations? Is the $1,000 entry level guide still pretty accurate in terms of what I should buy?

EDIT: What do you guys think of the Onkyo TX-SR605S? (7.1 Channles, 90 w/channel, supports 6 devices)?

Yes, the Onkyo 605 and Yamaha RX-V661 are good receiver options in your price range. You might also start researching you future speaker upgrade because they are the most important audio component and dictate some of the power and performance requirments of your receiver.

Check out the receiver section of the forum for several threads on this topic.

Thanks! I realize that I have a bunch more research to do before I make any decisions. There's a lot to learn! >.<
