Receiver recomendation please

Hi all, I am new to the forum and am needing help. I am in the market for a good home theater receiver. I am looking for one that makes sense when using/setting up, sounds excellent, and looks good. I am selling my separates (2 channel) to get the home theater set up. I am using PSB Century 600 speakers for the fronts, and some polk in-ceiling for surrounds, and I have to get the center yet. I also have a 12" Velodyne sub.

The Receivers (Brands) I am looking at are:

Denon AVR-3805 or 3806
Onkyo TX-SR803
Yamaha RX-V1500 or RX-V2500 or RX-V1600 or RX-V2600

Any opinions would be greatly appreciated!

i use yamaha. my friends use yamaha. especially those for home theater use.
might be because its the cheapest though. (bang for your buck)

The yamaha and denon models you list are good options. If you need HDMI, get one of the newer models.

Make sure you get a PSB center that matches your fronts for the best HT performance.

If you're planning on routing all your video connections through your receiver, and have a newer HDTV, best to go with the 3806 or 2600 as jcpanny noted.

If you're not planning on using the receiver as a digital video switching center, you can save yourself some money and pick up a 3805 or 2500. You can still use either as an analog video switch, or later on pick up an HDMI 2x1 or 4x1 switch.

I bought my receiver in May, and my choice came down to the 2500 and 3805. They're almost identical in build quality, power, sound quality, setup, and ease of use. So i picked up the 2500 because it was cheaper and came with the setup mic (the 3805 it costs extra). Set aside another $150 with any of the Denon or Yamaha receivers on your list, as you're going to want a new remote. The remotes they come with are terrible.

My yamaha remote has an orange backlight and seafoam green lettering on the buttons, which makes the backlight useless. You can't see anything in the dark.

i have the denon 2805 and am quite happy with it. you can't go wrong with either of those denon's...

I have a Yamaha RX-v1400 and a RX-V2500. I really like them. I bought the 2500 because it came with 3 component video inputs, while the 1400 only have 2. I really like the Yamaha remotes. Even with the back light short comings with the 2500 remote I still like it. I control all my AV devices with it. I only need the one remote. The rest are put away once setup is complete. The 1400 remote was good too, but the 2500 added a few more needed buttons.
