Receiver Optical Out

Alright, so the current receiver I have is a small two channel bookshelf system. I want to expand my speaker channels as well as use the better amp inside a new Receiver. Is there any way to do this through Optical Ins/Outs from my old receiver to the new one or would I just have to sell the old receiver since there is no way to technically link the two together?

Any response is much appreciated.

Ummm, if you are buying a new receiver, why are you worried about your old one? I don't know if i'm understanding your question correctly but it seems like keeping the old one would be redundant in this scenario

You can't run amplifide sound to another amp, If your old receiver was a Preamp then run it to a Amp it would work, but I don't know if it would work though the optic cable, I would get a new receiver and make sure there is a repair center for any receiver you buy.

I think you are saying that you want to get a new receiver, and still use your old cassette, CD player, whatever inside the bookshelf system. If they are all one piece, you cannot do it. If they are connected to the main unit with RCA's, you probably can. You cannot run a new receiver and the old bookshelf together as a whole unless the system has pre-outs, which I doubt.
