Receiver keeps getting error and i don't know what it is

So a few weeks ago my receiver (Pioneer VSX-60 Elite) all of a sudden started getting an error UE-22, where it would not play sound at all. Video would still come through just no sound. Sometimes i will get sound but it cuts in and out and the receiver keeps changing from 5.1 to stereo. If i let the receiver sit for a day or two sometimes when i try it it might work for say a day or even a few but the error will always come back. I searched the web and it said it was maybe a Firmware problem so i updated via USB and the problem still exists. I've all reset to factory settings and all but nothing seems to work. Any ideas what this error is? If so should i try and repair or buy a new unit? Thanks in advance

I would double check to see if here isn't a speaker wire strand touching the chassis somewhere. Then I would re-download, and re-flash the firmware, to make sure it's the right one, then reset everything.
