Hi All,
I was not sure where to post this... I am a novice when it comes to home theater, so I hope this will get some replies. I have a Denon DP-300F turntable and recently got a pair of Bose 301 V series speakers for my birthday. I am looking for a receiver that will accept my turntable. Will any one do or must it have a "phono" jack? I am willing to spend $450 on a receiver, and would like to be able to upgrade my system later with a sub and more speakers. Any suggestions or information would be much appreciated. Thanks!

If you're in the US you can pick up a refurbished Onkyo TX-SR707 for $400. They don't ship outside the US. It's last year's model and lacks support for 3D but it's a great receiver for the money and looking at the specs it looks like it has a phono input.

You will need a receiver with a Phono input, unless the table has a preamp (some do). The manual should tell you if it does. You can also get turntable preamps from various audio web sites. If you use a preamp or if the table has one, then you can plug into any of the usual stereo inputs on the receiver.

I looked at the manual and it does have a real phono input for an MM cartridge.
No pre-amp needed.

I picked up an old TX-SR800 from a pawn shop for $120. It works. I got lucky. Just about any old stereo rec'r will have phono inputs and be good enough to drive the 301's. Ummm ... nah, that's all. Enjoy. :)
