I am getting the Rti A7's for my front two speakers with the intention of doing the same for the rear and updating to the A6 center. I want a reciever that will powert hem decently until I can upgrade to an external amplifier (aka I do not want my wife to kill me for spending another $3K on my stereo system at once when my current one is more than sufficient for her).

I was considering the Denon 3311 or the Onkyo 808 or 1008. I like the features of the Panasonic 1120 and 1020, but have read that they do not run close to their power ratings. What do you think of these, or do you have any other recomendations. I guess I want the most bang for the buck, 1.4a, great sound quality, great video picture, HD radio, and obviously pre amp outputs.

Can I get some feedback from people that have these receivers and hopefully even better people with the receivers as well as the Rti a7's. I know a lot of it comes down to personal preference, but because I am going to power them from the receiver in the interim, I would like something with clear, consistend higher power to at least justify to my wife why I am spending so much freaking money on my new addiction.

this gets my vote....never heard the reciever by itself (though Marantz is a very reputable company well known for quality gear.)

you already know that preouts are important for future amplification upgrades (good call). This reciever will do that job very well.

You can sashay over to the Polkaudio.com forums....might be alot of people there that can speak from experience for those particular speakers. just a search there will probably get you alot of answers.

You could save big bucks dropping the 1.4 requirement. I am on the side of 3D being a wash.
Yeah, with video especially (although same applies in audio to some extent) content drives everything. If your setup can handle 99% of all of the content currently in existence... why pay up to 20% more just to get that last 1%.

I couldn't agree more on that recommendation. They only exception would be if you already purchased a TV with 3D capability and glasses - since in that case assumedly you've already decided that it is worth it for you. ;)

very solid choices, In the past I have heard the older RTi's with Onkyo recievers and they were a skosh bright to me (and this is from a guy that otherwise likes Onkyo)

emphasis on skosh, I like my sound pretty laid back so if you got the Onk and loved it it would be no big surprise. Also note that this was with the last series, not the current RTiA's which are an improvement.

either way, you'll be fine.....you got the speaker choice right, at least in my opinion ;)

your theater will kick much @ss either way

It looks like it is coming down to the Onkyo TX-NR1008/1007 or the Denon 3311.

The Onkyo is measured out as follows:

Factory rating 135w per channel
1 Channel: 177W
2 Channels 160w
5 Channels 125W
6 Channels 45W

It is also 9.2, so I can add two subs and bi amp the front two Rti a7's, while still keeping it in 7.1.

i could not find the lab tests for the 3311, but the precurser the AVR-989 (a precurser) came out as follows:

Factor rating: 115w per channel:
Bench Test:

1 Channel: 155w
2 channels: 130W
5 Channels: 112W
7 Channels: 100W.

It also have the ability to have two subs and pre outs for future expansion.

i know in HT it is rare to use all 7 channels, but I do like Multi channel for listening to music.

I do like the feature set on the Pioneer 1120, but the lab tests came out less than steller on the only test I could find and that was on the Pioneer VSX-1019AH.

HT Labs Measures
Five channels driven continuously into 8-ohm loads:
0.1% distortion at 28.7 watts
1% distortion at 34.3 watts

Not good. I assume that the 1120 has similar results.

the lab tests were from Sound and Vision Magazine and Home Theater Magazine.

Has anyone run the onk 1007 0r 1008 or the Denon 3311 with the Rti a7's? If so, what do you think?
