Hi,

I bought "JBL SCS 300.7 8-piece Home Cinema Speaker Package".
I am looking for a compatable receiver, which can take advantage of the speakers.

I bought these speakers as I got them for $280 (refurb) and they got very good reviews.

Budget for receiver is around $200 - $250.

Please advise a good receiver for these speakers..

Thanks in advance.

I'd recommend the Onkyo 503, which can be found new online in your price range. You might be able to find a deal on the Pioneer 815 since it is being replaced, but in general it is more expensive than the Onkyo.

Budget receiver

The Yamaha HTR-5840 is another good budget option. Some of these low end receivers will only drive a 6.1 speaker system.
Also look for good deals on refurbished Onkyo and Denon receivers from sites like ubid.com and ecost.com.

I have a question.. if I buy Pioneer 1015, can these speakers take advantage of the receiver.. or will it be a overkill.
Will there be a option to reduce the output to 100 watts, as speakers can only produce 100watts?
(I don't know how silly this question is, please bear with me)

Thanks for the inputs once again.

The Pioneer 1015 would certainly work for you, but it would cut into the money you saved by buying the JBL's refurb'd. If you like the 1015, you should get it, but you probably would not be able to tell the difference sound-wise between it and the other, lower priced options already mentioned.

BTW-The "100 Watt" rating for the JBL's is virtually meanless. Just don't push the amplifier beyond it's limit and it will be fine.

A guy that I go to church with has gone through training at Peavey on thier PA equipment. He told me that he wathced them do a demonstation where they took a 10 watt capacity speaker and drove it with 1000 watts. They also took a 1000 watt capacity speaker and drove it using only 10 watts. The 1000 watt speaker blew and the 10 watt did not.

Moral of the story: It is always better to have too much power and be conservative, then to not have enough and overdrive to the point of distortion.

Distortion is bad. I know from experience. Blown a few speakers I have, hmm.;)
