Hi Guys. Im wondering what I should do about powering two, 5 1/4 inch in-wall speakers. (50 watt min, 100 watt max, from monoprice)

Is there such thing as a really small receiver for this type of set up? Is there any other way to power them? They are going in the ceiling in my shed, so I don't need anything new, just something that works.

Any receiver you can find for cheap at a local pawn shop, or on Craigslist, will do the trick.

Any amplifier will do, but a receiver is probably your best option. It will have an input for your signal source, plus a volume control. Sometimes an amp doesn't have a volume control.

I've never seen an integrated amplifier without a volume control but yes, I do agree a receiver will offer the option of FM as well.

A suggestion..
Sherwood sells a stereo receiver (RX4105) for around $100, shop around on-line rated @ 100W x 2, AM/FM tuner and remote control. Available at Sears and Newegg, hard to beat or if you want to go up one more step, HK has a model available (HK3390)...

Just my $0.01... ;)

yea, i saw that one for $99 also. there is a HK 330b from the 80's, on craigslist for $40.

One more thing. Say I wanted to make some computer speakers (2), using two 3" HIVI B3S speakers, and some mdf. I have the wood, the tools, and the speakers. The sound card is "on board", and its an old HP. Im just looking to make them maybe 6 inches high, and whatever depth is needed. Nothing large.

What would I use to power the two speakers, and what kinds of internal and external speaker wire would I need? I've looked at some builds, but couldn't find an explanation, or any real details.
