Receiver doesn’t decode DTS

Whilst Googling I passed by this forum. I have a problem that I can’t seem to figure out on my own. I recently bought a NetGear EVA9100 media player to stream HD content from my PC to my television. The 9100 is wired by a HDMI cable to my television and an optical cable to my Denon AVR-1602 receiver.

The AVR-1602 does have DTS certification, but I don’t get any sound from any of my movies with DTS. I tried many combinations getting the sound to work, but without success. I do get sound from movies without DTS.

Does someone know the correct set-up or if my receiver is just too old and broke down on the DTS decoding?

Thanks a lot.

I'm guessing that the TV is the weak link.
It's most likely not capable of outputting a DTS signal.
Try hooking the Netgear directly to the receiver, and then to the TV. Let the receiver do the decoding.

I have the NetGear connected to the TV by HDMI (for the picture)

The optical cable (for the sound) is plugged directly into the receiver

Is the content encoded with a DTS soundtrack ?

If it does not have a DTS track then there is nothing you can do except play it back with what its encoded with. DTS just can't be chosen on the receiver. There needs to be a DTS track to start with that is encoded on the media.

When I go to the "info"-section on the NetGear EVA. The video's that don't have sound say "Audio: English (DTS, 48kHz, 6ch)".

Problem solved!

Apparently some of the audio settings on the EVA9100 where still set to "stereo" in stead of "passthrough". Changed it, and eureka!

Thanks all.
