Good morning all. Have browsed these forums before checking out ideas for my home theater setup and had a question I was hoping someone could help with.
My current layout is a Sony STR-DG800 receiver that has worked well for me in the past but I seem to have come up to a roadblock with it in the new theater room. I am attaching a PS3, cable box, and Escient Fireball to the system. PS3 and cable box are going through HDMI but the fireball only has component. I hooked up all three items to the system and the PS3 and cable box output fine via HDMI to the projector.
Here is where it gets sticky. The fireball won't output via the projector. Now I have had it hooked up in the past where it went component in then HDMI out to the TV and it worked fine. I got Sony on the horn and they are telling me that the receiver won't use the component inputs if you have HDMI hooked in. OK..np..will just unhook the HDMI input when I want to use the fireball right? Nope. Now the component inputs aren't outputting to the projector at all. Thought maybe the fireball was hosed so I hooked up my xbox 360 via component to test it. It wouldn't output either, even with ALL the HDMI inputs disconnected. So I am left with either a receiver that has to be repaired? in some way or getting another receiver.
First is, thoughts on whether that receiver needs repaired or just something wierd going on with it? (I did do a total reset on the setup thinking maybe it was something in how I was digitally assigning inputs/outputs) Barring that, what is the best receiver that will handle all three inputs and outputting to HDMI? In the 400-600 dollar range preferably.
Speaker setup is a Phase Tech V12 fronts, PC33.5 Center, V-surround rears, and a Velodyne SPL-1500R sub. Projector is a Panasonic PT-AE2000U
