Then can you get the Pioneer VSX-517 for $178? I feel like you are giving up too easy and the boys are gonna lose a point;)
The problem is no component video in. I have the PS2, Wii and DVD player all hopefully going to component and only 2 component ins on the TV.

Ok, HDMI cables. Does the gauge really matter on a 3-6 ft run? Monoprice has about 100 different types.. gold plated, silver plated-cooper, 24 gauge, 28 gauge. What should I be looking for?

Ill get a $250 dollar unit, I just have to wait a bit. Its the shock of Christmas debt and impending vacation. Also, the sticker shock of the TV. I will just have to lie in wait for a while. I don't lose, I just delay (that's my story and I'm sticking to it).

Any of those are probably fine. I use these and 10 bucks is not too much to ask. Tell your wife you are going to BB to get a HDMI cable for $100 bucks, order this one and put the 90 bucks in a HT piggybank.

That $192 Pioneer might just fly. Its pretty nice. But if I am going to spend $192, I might as well spend $219 or $249, right ;). I have one more question(s). I have the cheap speakers that came with my HTiB. The subwoofer has two leads, red and black. I notice most of the receivers have sub-out as an RCA jack. How do I make the connection? Also, I tore the tiny wire out of the speakers at the terminals to the magnets inside the boxes and connected them directly to the 16 gauge wire out of the wall. Was this a bad thing? The reason I ask is that my rear surrounds now seem awfully quiet. Or is this a product of the crudy power in the HTiB receiver?

Oh crap...here it goes...just walk away...

AVRs have line level pre-outs so they are not going to work with your passive subwoofer. Your HTIB speakers are probably very low impedence so they may not work either. You need a sub, speakers and an AVR.

I think this will answer the question... The Speakers are 8 ohm (on the magnet in the box) and the center one is 12 ohm. That's ok, right?

Yes that will be fine. So now you just need a sub.

No way to hook up my 'woofer? That's a shame. Ah well, like you said, its easy to spend money.

I would love that last onkyo system... But at that point I might as well get separate. Oh for unlimited funds. Another day perhaps.

It is probably best to wait until you can get what you really want. If I had of done that I would not have bought a LCD, Plasma and a DLP all in one year.

Oh well, at least 3 rooms in my house have nice TVs.

If it was me, I would purchase that Marantz 4001 receiver. Then after a month I would purchase 2 bookshelf speakers. Then after that 2 more. Then a center channel. And finally a sub. This might take a year or so. But for under $800 you could have a really nice system.
