Hi: I have the blu-ray player connected to TV via HDMI. I also have a sound bar connected to TV via a digital optical cable. I have a Denon AVR 2807 sitting that is still in a box and not being used. Will I see any improvement in sound if I put a receiver between the TV and the blu-ray player?

TV: Sharp Aquos 60" Class 1080p
Blu-Ray: Sony BDP S580
Receiver Denon AVR 2807
Speaker: VSB200

List the make and model of all three items for the best help.

Only if you connect real speakers to the Denon. The soundbar is a self-contained system within itself. The soundbar already has all it's amplification and speakers inside of it and you cannot change that.

You might want to connect an inexpensive subwoofer to the sound bar, though. That's gotta help somewhat.

I looked up that speaker and based on this:

•Integrated Class-D Amplifier at 20x2 channel with 0.01% THD

•S/PDIF receiver for digital audio delivery
... I say you're getting as good a sound as you're going to get with that speaker.
It has a built in rec'r/decoder.

Edit: I missed Mark's post but agree 100%.

Your system, in terms of cars is an equivalent of Nisstan GTR (TV) with V8 engine(AVR) and fancy transmition(BDP)but all seated on four donuts instead of real wheels...
Any moditition which doesn't involve replacing donuts to wheels (real speakers) is a wasted effort
