Receiver/Atmos issue

I recently found a Yamaha receiver in a classified add that said it supported atmos, having ordered new def tech 9060s and there Atmos add on I thought the Yamaha would be a good match. After asking my friend to pick up the receiver for me I realized that it was not the same model that was advertised it was the Yamaha RX Z9. After further research on the z9 I found out it is older and does not support Atmos or even HDMI. My question is, is there any way to get atmos to work with this receiver or am I poop out of luck and have to buy a new one?

No way. You can use front height channels IIRC. That unit has great amp section.

Thank you for replying, are you saying connect the height channels on the receiver to the Atmos module on the 9060s? And that would work or is there more to it. I am still learning lol and really don't no much about the hole Atmos thing

Yamaha has 2 presence channels meant to be mounted above the mains on the wall. It's not atmos, but it gives you an option till you purchase a new unit. FWIW you can get a denon x3400 for $599, which is a good deal on a upper mid level avr.
