Receiver as Pre/Pro

Yeah, the question of receiver vs pre-pro has been asked a lot.

Facts - according to acutal measurements, they are both equivalent in terms of sound quality when DSPs, EQs, & Tones are bypassed.

So it really comes down to other factors, instead of performance.

Aesthetics & "bragging rights" are huge. For example, "I have a pure dedicated pre-pro and you have a receiver:p".:D

But the question I want to know is, which types are more reliable?

Are pre-pros more reliable because they don't have that amp section?

Personally I think reliability is a moot point. Both are built to last for years with proper use. If people didn't keep getting the upgrade bug, they would probably find that their gear goes for 20+ years or more.

Warner Bros is switching to DTS-HD MA

You're probably right.

It's just that personally, I've had 2 receivers that malfunctioned on me (back in the 90s:D), but I've never had a pre-pro malfunctioned. Probably just back luck on the receivers.

The upgrade bug is a big thing. It's because they keep on coming out with new sound & video formats (TrueHD, DTS-HD, 1080p HDTV, etc.).

When they come out with price-friendly 4K (10 million pixels) HD Video (instead of $185,000), I'll be buying a new projector too.:D

One other thing. Warner Bros is releasing Watchmen BD in DTS-HD MA, instead of Dolby TrueHD !!!!!!!:D

Yes! DTS-HD MA RULES, baby!!!!!!:D

I'll say Yes, and also No. :D I guess I'm bias into a Pro/Preceiver. :D
--------------------------------- Sounds quite aPROPREate to me.
'A propos', what's the proper preposition? ;)

Ya baby, tell me about it; tonight is the big night, I'm watching "Watchmen" on Blu-ray. Yahoo! :D
