Greg, I hope to follow in your foot-steps.

Cheers,

Phil
You will need to say 'Cheers' much, much, much more often.
And with feeling. :)
You thought you weren't a morning person?
I got bad news for ya ... :D

Naw man, it not as easy as just drinking to follow in my foot steps. You have to be willing to blow your woofers at the drop of a hat just to entertain the neighbors.

I keep catching pieces of that blown speaker fiasco. I'm genuinely upset by your loss. Like a death in the family. You must of had 'em blaring! At least they went out in a blaze of glory. :)

As mentioned above, the difference between a "low" powered receiver and a "high" powered receiver is pretty close to meaningless. If you heard a difference between two mass market receivers in terms of sonics then I'm here to tell you those differences weren't caused by the equipment. They were caused by your own biases or by a failure to level match the products side by side.

The truth is all home receivers are overpowered for a typical home installation. But if you want a meaningful amount of additional power then get a few of these. They won't sound any different than what you had but they may make you feel better about things. They produce 350 watts per channel into 8 ohms. You need three. The center channel one can be bridged - that's 850 watts.

Hi fmw and thanks for posting. You may disagree, but I HAVE heard some differences with respect to various receivers. To this day, the Pioneer 1015 has impressed me the most value wise. I am also aware that outboard amps will give me more power. If I was to go that route, there is little doubt that I would go with this one:

http://emotiva.com/shop/cart.php?m=product_detail&p=4 . ;);) However, money is a bit tight as it is for many of us. That is why I chose the Denon 2808 CI. Hopefully, I made the right decision. Only time will tell.

Cheers,

Phil

Well folks I have my new Denon up and running. Lets just say I am very impressed! This is my first Denon receiver ever, but I assure you it won't be my last. ;);) Holy crap, this thing has so many options it is not even funny. I mean, there are so many tweaking options. Needless to say, I really like the sound of it so far. Just need to get more familiar with the menus and such. I am so glad I bought this receiver. It would have been nice to get the 3808 CI, but it was out of my budget. Thanks to everyone here that offered me some good advice. Kudos to all of you that did!

Cheers,

Phil
