Really? Oppo DV-980H, for CD playback over any other player?

It seems to be a general consensus in all the threads to use a PS3, or Oppo DV-980H as the best option for Cd playback. I am currently in the market for a new CD player, and have been considering the Oppo, Emotiva, Onkyo C-S5VL, and Denon 3800 BD. The reason for the Denon entry, although more than I really want to go, I have a older Denon 3800, which blew me away at the time being much better than what else I had been using. Still produces great sound, but I need a different player at another location.
SO I am asking for opinions on these four and anything else you can throw in. Being able to play different formats is not important to me, the quality of the sound is. I have given up on SACD DVD-audio, because fast food style music formats have killed those formats off for me, not happy about it, but that is the way it is.
Also I realize that the Denon 3800BD might not suit me as well because I don't want to wait for the thing to spool up. I am going to use HDMI, or Toslink for connection. I am currently leaning towards the Onkyo.

If you were going to use the analog output, I'd suggest that you think about a player with better DAC's. Since you are using digital output, the 980H is a very good candidate. The price is nice ($170, or $135 if they have b-stock available) and the performance is very solid.

Can the 980H play with using the video display. What i mean is, will it be friendly to operate without using a TV??

You'll want a display when you are setting it up or playing MP3's from a USB stick of CD-R/DVD-R, but if all you are playing is CD's and SACD's the front panel display is really all you need.

I don't consider the PS3 to be a great CD player unless you are looking at it for all the other things it can do too. SACD is not one of them :) The 980 is a solid audio player for the price.
