I have plenty of places near by that will take the oil, even some of the oil change places will take it. Storing and transporting it kind of sucks too though.

The shop I take the STI to, I bought it from him. He is the only one who works on it because I trust him. More than the dealer.

getting rid of it is a pain
Walmart does in RI as do a couple of auto parts stores plus my mechanic will take it probably because we've known each other for 20 years or so and we're both immigrants even if we're not the same flavor. Oh yeah, it be like that. :D

I swung wrenches for a living.
Oh, I thought you were like one of those guys that ran back and forth on a sub bumping into people and sliding down ladders. :D lol

If he was swinging wrenches, sounds like he was running around banging on things to make sure they were working. Or to get them to work.

I have parts stores near me that do it, but I really don't want to mess with the mess. Or potential mess.

Also, I'm lazy.

The transporting it part is what I don't like.

When you buy the oil in 1 gallon jugs, the old oil just goes back into that or into another plastic container like from windshield washer fluid. Then that goes into a milk crate sort of for protection from tipping. I guess it is a pain in the ass, but not as big a pain in the ass as paying $450 to maintain three vehicles.

I'm lazy too, but I'm also cheap

You're not lazy if you're still doing it lol. I leave it in the oil catch container. The places I take it, like auto parts places, expect you to dump it yourself, not just drop off jugs. And in Ca. you have to sign their sheet saying disposed of chemicals. My expensive low profile jack got stolen from my current place, so that deters me a lot from oil changes and brakes these days. I bought a replacement but keep it at my dad's since he has air tools.

I remember you getting robbed years ago. Not the jack . Damn, that's low.Or methed up, as they say. I mean why else would you steal a floor jack? Well, maybe crack ... yeah, definitely crack. Addiction is a bitch. Too bad about the jack and everything else.

I use to do my oil changes at a friends garage/shop and he had a Harbor Freight floor jack that freakin' sucked. I'd be more worn out after using that thing than if I'd a just pick it up with my back it seemed. Anyway about $130 at Home Depot took care of that once I had access to the current space. The low profile aluminum one was out of stock so I ended up with the standard heavy steel job but it was actually more useful as it had a greater height capability. \

I really don't want to mess with the mess.
Girly Man! :D

FB has ruined me for sh!tposting. Not that I was ever strictly like above the belt but since I joined this group that gives each other bad advice, it's gotten out of hand. It's great that you can afford the luxury of keeping your hands clean. :)

Son in law still has that cheap harbor freight aluminum one. Sometimes it starts to lose pressure and drop on its own. He doesn't work on his car anymore either lol. He is the CIO at his company :) But he still drives that car.

I was pretty upset that they stole my jack. I liked working on my cars, showing my son how to work on his, it was a good thing. I worked hard to buy that jack and used it a lot. So I bought another of the same kind, 3 ton omega lift. I haven't used it in years, but my son still uses it over at my dad's place.

I'm sure you know what I mean. But, in this case, "swinging" wrenches is just another word for "turning".

We had a few sacred rules in submarines.

One was, "Before you open a hatch, count the number of times we dived and the number of times we surfaced. Add them together. If the sum is an odd number - do NOT open the hatch".

Another was, "banging on things" is a big no-no because, in submarines, "noise is death".

I don't trust ANY jack. That's why I always lower the vehicle onto axle stands.

I kinda let my imagination run wild with the thought of someone running around a sub swinging a wrench at things.

Yeah well. My driveway has enough crap on it that needs cleaning up from the time my high pressure injector decided to get a pin hole leak in it. Doesn't sound like it'd be much of an issue until you realize it's spraying diesel out at 15k+ PSI.

That made a mess.

I wonder how dumb it is to get the engine bay detailed?

I've seen a jack fail right after the guy had gotten up from having his legs under the car. I had just gotten through offering him some jack stands which he declined. He turned green with the understanding of what could have happened. Seriously he was dumb, bordering on special needs but really cocky so that you couldn't like him.

Then I also got to witness a car jack fail because I had been using it on my truck repeatedly. It wasn't designed for that weight.

Deisel injection is no joke. That spray will kill you if you put your skin up to it. Blood poisoning or some such nonsense.

Reminds me to keep my jack stands and ramps. I have the metal kind vs those current plastic/rubbery things.
