Hmmm ... I guess that's one way to do it. :D

I was never a residential igloo guy but ... :D

Looks good! :)
The house (brick) was built in 1960 and furnace oil must have been free in those days, because there is no insulation in the walls. So, I decided to put rigid foam insulation on the inside, with another layer of drywall.

Of course, houses of a certain vintage have their idiosyncrasies. The walls are not 8', they're 98-1/2", hence the strip of plywood along the bottom. The heating register was flush with the old wall, so I had to frame around it, since the insulation/drywall layer is 2" thick. Had to extend the window frame the same way.

This one small bedroom will cost about C$1000, including paint. I'll probably not live long enough to recover that in energy savings, but the room should be more comfortable.

I'll probably tackle the main bedroom in the Fall.

Wow, that's cheap. But only 2 walls so yeah. It looks good. I like the extra height. All I ever see is lower and lower ceilings. As a man of some stature, I fukkin hate that trend. High ceilings denote extra cost, more class ... something, I don't know what but I like it and I notice it.

I'm pretty sure that insulation is a vapor barrier as well. You should be able to feel that but I'm just guessing.

Who's taping it? Not you I hope. That's really not a DIY job. It's the single hardest skill I ever developed. I feel like anybody can cut wood and pound nails but taping takes time to learn.

Well, I suppose it's cheap in relative terms. A contractor would cost a lot more. And yes, I'll be doing the taping. I did it in the basement rec room and it doesn't look bad at all, for an amateur job. You might spot flaws, but nobody I know will. I'll be much slower than a professional, but hey, I'm retired.

The extra ceiling height is barely noticeable visually. In contrast, the basement has a 7' ceiling.

You know what it is? I like getting paid. Perfect gets you paid. I hate criticism. Perfect leaves no room for that.

I can reach an 8' ceiling from the floor so I can gauge it pretty well. It would be different if I was 5'6" tall. If I was 5'6" tall everything would look like the Sistine Chapel. Must be nice being short. :D

When I was in college, we had a sh!tty landlord that did the bare minimum to "fix" any issues. They replaced a window with plexiglass. It was thin too.

Where we lived had a TON of dust in the air at all times, so we decided to take some foam insulation and just close up all the windows in the house.

Sure, we lived in a cave, but our electric bill went down and I could breathe better.

Wasn't fun to take out when we left though.
