I used to own a Technics SLP-118 that was very well built but lacking important features flimsy Disc Tray Transport. Never actually got it to play a single CD.

Ok I have a Serious Question about this Teac Why is it able to read & Play a CD-R that my Kenwood refused to even reconize? Better Laser Pick up i'll assume Kenwood used a Sony pick up.

Welcome to the new day.

To other people that have posted I have never heard of Oppo DVD Players It has to be some kind of Off Brand.
Kid, you've got a lot to learn. You're best off sitting back and listening instead of proudly and arrogantly showing off your ignorance when others are trying to enlighten you.

By listening, ignorance can be cured. You don't want to be the other alternative that cannot be cured, do you?

Bought a Cambridge Audio Azur 650 c stand alone player. Must look really good because I believe every thing sounds better... and there is supposed to be no difference in players. If it sounds good to you who cares what it is.... if it doesnt try another one until you find the right one. I once bought a second hand Sony player from an op shop and it turned out to be an old "top model" ...that was after I researched it because I thought it sounded much better than my Technics courasel but maybe that one just looked better too....... not. So maybe there is a difference or maybe there is not.......

Oppo is one of those brands that seemed to pop up a few years back and has proven to be the real deal.

Sony was never Highend Even their ES Series CD Players I prefer Teac,Onkyo.
Man I hope your kidding. Because at many points in time Sony has produced some pretty high end products that will keep up with anybody. In fact they still make some impressive products. Even there budget receivers are competing with everyone else.

The same thing can be said for many of the majors. They have all produced some pretty high end products at many times in there history. Some are still making some really nice high end gear.

Somehow I suspect that even though he claims to prefer Onkyo, he wouldn't be interested in a contemporary player from them. I have the single play C-S5VL and am very happy with it, probably no good though huh? :)

Rather indifferent towards them to be honest. I think I used more of their floppy drives at one point than anything else they've made.

There aren't many brands I've had a deep interest in to be honest, I always evaluate my options and look at what best suits my needs. One of the few things I have ever bought simply because I 'wanted it' was my NAD integrated amp. I was drawn to them ever since I first saw some NAD components when I was a kid. Would I buy another NAD amp? Absolutely, but if/when I come to that I would definitely survey the alternatives and make sure any new component would provide the necessary performance. If NAD proved to not have what I needed or didn't perform (assuming I was buying a new amp) I'd go with something else.
