Hey guys is iit ok to use a 'digital audio cable' RCA connection type as my subwoofer cable?

Thanks

I wouldn't buy one for that purpose (no reason to spend the money like that, subs are easy to feed), but coax is coax in a basic sense, and if you have a digital audio coax, it can certainly be used to run to your sub.

just so long as it isn't the orange cable with the bulge on the middle. some companies call that one digital coax when it is actually a SP/DIF (sony-phillips digital interface)

that one is normally used to run from an HDTV sound source to a receiver and would not work for a sub.

How is that different than any other coax?

S/PDIF, as far as I knew, prefers a 75 ohm cable to carry the signal. I haven't seen one with a bulge in the middle, but would think that was one of those magnets to help reduce noise nothing else. Any info you have to elaborate on this?

my Toshiba manual (55 inch rear projection) was adamant about using the orange cable. after some research, it appears, I was fluffed... most commercial SP/DIF cables appear to be just well-made 75 ohm cables.

That's good to know my thinking hadn't been wrong, but I was prepared for it to be.

Anyway, any 75ohm cable will work then, but most people should have one that is at least halfway decent. I actually use quad shield coax for most of my wiring that leaves my rack, though this will change to some smaller wire down the road here. 75ohm is the magic cable.

I just took an old coax cable that I used for a connection from the Cable to my VCR (R.I.P.) and through some F to RCA connectors on the end and it sounded fine. I have since upgraded to an actual digital coax cable (that I used to used for my computer) and have noticed no difference at all, but it is a really short run. less than 6 feet
