Gene, you rated the bass extension higher on the 661se than the 661ser...... just a typo???? And by the way Im currently demoing the 661ser for the fronts.... and yes, I love them.

No thats NOT a typo. The phase plug driver sacrifices a bit of cone area as opposed to the conventional one. It's a moot point if you are using a subwoofer (recommended) though.

That depends on your room, equipment and subwoofer(s). 80Hz is a great starting point and if you are doing home theater, I wouldn't go much below 60Hz.

RBH 661 SE paired with 661 SER

Would I be making a mistake going with 661 SER for my center paired with 661 SE's for the left/right mains?

Also, has anyone demo'd mc 616c's versus the 661 SE's?

Thanks,

It might not have the same timber. Why the SER over the SE?

SER vs SE

Could get a decent deal on an SER plus alway hear how important center channel is when movie watching.

It is important, but a timber match is more important.

Yes, my impression,.... the 616C is an excellent value. Sound and performance are similar,...maybe a bit more forward with less detail (if that makes sense) and a little less bass extention.

If I were to build a budget HT system I would go with the 616C,... what really impresses me is the clarity of dialog and low volume detail, ie; you don't lose or miss anything at lower volumes like many other speakers. This is especially true of the SE series but seems to hold very well for the MC.

Matter of fact I listened to the 616C, 661SE, 1266SE, and T-3P all in the same demo session at the RBH facility. That is what I base my excellent value opinion on :D that and the performance of my older (non MKII) 414C, 4C, and TS-10AP system.
