We lost another of the great ones Thursday. Many of you are too young to remember him but know the classic tunes which never seem to get stale even after 40 years. I just listened to the album I have of his which has Midnight Hour, 634-5789, Land of 1000 Dances and 99 and 1/2 won't do. I'm missing only his (THE) version of Mustang Sally. Time for a trip to itunes I guess.
I got to meet him a couple of times about two years ago. It seems he had settled in my area after the usual legal/drugs/alcohol issues outting it back together. I met him in my medical capacity unfortunatly which is not ideal. However, he was extremely nice and far from full of himself. I always figured that he was a large man for the power of his voice but he was smaller than little me about 5'6"" maybe 140lbs soaking wet. He was far friendlier than far lesser entertainers I have met even though he was feeling quite poorly at the time. I wish him peace and the knowledge that his music will live on a long time.
