Can someone tell me why the Onkyo,Yamaha and Denon receive pages of treads and attention while the Pioneer Elite doesn't. I know that the Elite has adopted some of the most sophisticated processing available and can compete.

I am considering the Onkyo 875, Yamaha 1800, Denon 3808 and the Elite vsx-94txh. I really like the Elite but can't help wondering if I am missiang something. Opinions are all valued.

thanks

Well from what I have seen the Pioneer Elites are a little bit overpriced when you compare receivers from the other manufacturers. Also my liking for Pioneer Elite was tarnished when I heard some Paradigm Studio 40's connected to one of their receivers and the speakers sounded pretty crappy. At first I though that the speakers in general were crap but he then changed them over to a Yamaha receiver and it was so much better.

I wish I could answer that. I like Pioneer products. AH has favorably reveiwed several of their receivers.

Well I certainly wouldn't have bought a 2nd Pioneer if I didn't think they were worth it, and when I was comparing unit for unit against the Denon, the denon's were $100 more.

I can attest to you that if you go read the Pioneer thread at AVS, you will find less people complaining then the comparable Denon units... I can't speak for any other brand as I wasn't looking at anything else..

Just my lowly opinion... :)

**Edit** I must confess that I bought these units as temporary fixes until I find the Pre-amp that I will upgrade to later on... 2 years or so...

Actually that's very true that you never hear anyone complaining about Pioneer Elite receivers. And with Denon it is mostly with their new stuff that people have problems with so that isn't really a good sign. Another brand no one complains about is Yamaha.

They are all very capable units. If the Pio has more what you need, flexibility, jump on it if the $$ is very similar or close enough for you:D
At times I suppose we get in a rut and overlook a component, or more familiar with another.;)
There is no reason why one would have a sound of its own; they are competently designed.

One thing you should check out about the Pioneer 94 is how it handles audio streaming. I looked over the manual and it looks like you need to go to the computer to play computer music or internet radio through the receiver. That wouldn't be convenient for me, particularly since I've become spoiled by the Squeezebox which I can operate right from the listening couch with my universal remote. It has its own display for use in selecting the music you want to play.

I'm shopping too and I've taken an interest in the 92. I think I would rather have it along with my Squeezebox than the 94. Something to check out. If the 92 had just one more HDMI input the decision making would be over.

I do agree looking at the Pioneer receivers, they really all could use 1 more HDMI port, compared to other brands, as far as streaming music I use a modded Xbox, running XBMC which will stream music(any format), movies(any format), pictures(any format) straight from the hard drive onboard once upgraded, or from a local server, streams music from the internet (free) and many other things that I couldn't possibly list in one post...

I guess I just see all these people struggling with streaming music and media portals and whatnot, I feel obligated to try to help people see the beauty of this device...

Sorry to get off topic..

Vin,

I don't know why there aren't more threads dedicated to Pioneer receivers. My guess is Pioneer guys in general just don't hang out here much. I bought a Pioneer 72 about two years ago & I think it's great. At that time I was deciding between the 72 and a Yamaha 2600. I went to my local Tweeter & checked 'em both out for awhile & finally decided I just liked the Pio better. Be sure you check them all out as you may find you like some things better on some receivers more than another. It can help tip the scales in favor of a particluar receiver. Recently I bought a Yamaha RX-V661 for my kids gameroom & I've liked it too. It's really a great buy for the dollar. I looked at the Pioneer 1017 and liked it too, but didn't like the fact that it only handled video through the HDMI. The 661 does audio and video through the HDMI. So far I guess I can say that I've been very satisfied with both Pioneer & Yamaha. Again, be sure to check out all of the receivers thoroughly and let us know what you end up picking. Happy hunting!
