Then it should pass with flying colours any DBT or SBT proving that two amps will sound alike when properly level matched and driving an appropriate load.

Of course you would not adhere to such a test condition that might prove a receiver sounds the same as your precious VTLs.
Forget those silly DB Tests :D
Why not go for the $1 Million? http://www.randi.org/site/index.php/1m-challenge.html

The James Randi Educational Foundation is a not-for-profit organization founded in 1996. Its aim is to promote critical thinking by reaching out to the public and media with reliable information about paranormal and supernatural ideas so widespread in our society today.

The Foundation's goals include:

* Creating a new generation of critical thinkers through lively classroom demonstrations and by reaching out to the next generation in the form of scholarships and awards.
* Demonstrating to the public and the media, through educational seminars, the consequences of accepting paranormal and supernatural claims without questioning.
* Supporting and conducting research into paranormal claims through well-designed experiments utilizing "the scientific method" and by publishing the findings in the JREF official newsletter and other periodicals. Also providing reliable information on paranormal and pseudoscientific claims by maintaining a comprehensive library of books, videos, journals, and archival resources open to the public.
* Assisting those who are being attacked as a result of their investigations and criticism of people who make paranormal claims, by maintaining a legal defense fund available to assist these individuals.
To raise public awareness of these issues, the Foundation offers a $1,000,000 prize to any person or persons who can demonstrate any psychic, supernatural or paranormal ability of any kind under mutually agreed upon scientific conditions.

It's called listening. You should try it sometimes.

Shakey
I always listen to music in dark room so as not to alter the real perception that sighted listening tests bring with them.

The only difference in sound between amps happens when power reserves are being tapped out or if one is comparing solid state to tubes. If one did a spectral analysis of a signal coming from a tube amp, you will notice its rich with even order harmonics. Thats why its pleasing to ear. Even order harmonics souns warm, odd order harmonics such as generated by SS when clipping sound harsh, shrill, etc. Nothing wrong if you prefer the sound of tubes over SS. Just don't claim that a tube amp is as clean as SS when amplifying signals. This simply is not true and has been proven many times over.

OK. It wasn't in the thread then, but it's here now.

WOW! "Tubes don't add distortion." WOW!

Better not let Jimmy Page see this! He might have a frigging heart-o-tak.:D

WOW!

Heck, I was considering setting-up a tube rig for some added fuzz. But, if it isn't going to add anything, then to heck with it.:D
