The JBLs better mate with your center channel, assuming the center channel has ceramic type tweeters.

The Phantoms are alright and I would prefer them to the JBLs, but the JBLs are more efficient. I don't really enjoy listening to the Performance series, not really a sit back and listen to music type of speaker IMO, then again I would say the same about the JBLs, not trying to be offensive.:)

How are you getting the Phantoms?

well a friend of mine has them in storage and decided to sell them. I agree with u about the jbl's; not the best to sit and listen for long, but tell me seth what can i get for about $600? i like klipsch and paradigm. I will upgrade my center to match also.

If you are going that route try to get into the Monitor series of the Paradigm, they are easier to listen to for me.

Thanks very much. I'll see what they cost. I really need to get some smooth sounds from my system.

I would ask about the Onix X-Series speakers from those that have experiance with them. Most people seem to describe them as fairly accurate without being bright/harsh. And I will say this, they have the most sophisticated look of any speaker in it's price range and above. The floor standing MTM speakers are only about $500 after shipping I think, and they are stunning.

Could someone please answer my simple question?.....I didn't want to start a new thread over it+ my level of A/V ignorance isn't attractive, lol.

If you have a DVD player that has either coaxial or optical output, can you plug the coaxial straight into a set of 5.1 speakers without having a A/V receiver?
