Quick help - Lip on stage?

I am completeing construction of my HT and had a question about my stage. I will be running rope light under the front lip (lip is 2.5 inches out) of my stage and riser. The stage has a curved front in the middle 75%.

My question is should I attach a piece of, say 1X2, wood to underneath the front lip of the stage to help control light from the rope lights from going out into the room or will I be fine. Trying to figure this out before carpet is installed.

Can you router a dado in the bottom of the lip to receive the rope light? That way it will give you a nice flush mount look.

Good idea, except the stage is already built and I wouldn't have any way of getting under there.

Any other thoughts?

Well... you could just do a small trim piece to cover the front view of the rope light....or (depending on the look you are going for) do a fabric trim (Like a window valance) that would cover it, that way you don't have to deal with attaching wood to the bottom side of the stage top.

Best way I have seen: do not bring the carpet all the way up the face or under the edge of the step. Leave a half inch gap around it. Since rope lighting is about half an inch thick, it will seat nicely into the gap in the carpet top and bottom which will not only act as a way to hold it in place, but will thoroughly mask the rope light from being visible under the lip of the step.

I have seen this done about 5 times and it looks and works great. Very professional.

Thanks BMX -think that is what I will do. I'll be there when the carpet is installed on Tuesday.
