Questions On Audessy Results

Hi.

I am very impressed with the results of the Audessy Android App for my Denon AVR-X3800h.
I turned Midrange Compensation, Dynamic Volume, & Dynamic EQ OFF

The Before Curves were extremely jagged, but the AFTER curves were smooth.

I have 3 questions: (Please forgive my poor photography skill in the following pics.)

1. All the AFTER Curves were smooth, but there was a slight dip in the Right Height Curve as shown in the attached "Dip Right Height2" jpg. Is this a big deal ? Should I try to edit this or just leave it alone ?

2. I don't understand the High Frequency Roll Off pics in the attached "High Freq Roll Off2" pics. I don't see any scale, so where does this Roll Off sit ? Is this for ALL the speakers ? Why are there Two High Frequency Roll Offs? Should I try to compensate for this, and if so, how?

3. I did not use a 500hz curtain. Does the 500hz Curtain block out the 0 - 500hz correction, or block out 500hz - 20khz ?? Attached "Sub Curve2" is a pic of the Audessy BEFORE & AFTER Curves for my sub. Based on the Sub AFTER Curve, should I bother using a 500hz Curtain?

Thanks,
M....

If you are referring to the dip around 2 kHz, it is the default setting, that Audyssey used to put a dip there to improve on the smoothness of speakers that are not smoothed in that range where they set the crossover. Most speakers probably don't need that dip so you can try to use the app to disabled it. If you found that you like the sound better with it enabled then you can go back and re-enable it.

I am not sure if they apply to all channels or just the front channels, it is best to ask Audyssey that question directly. You can try both roll off curve and determine which one sounds better to you. You an also choose flat with the app if you don't like the roll off at all.

If you use a curtain, you are effectively limiting the EQ/Correction range up to the frequency you choose, above that frequency Audyssey will leave things alone, without doing and EQ/correction.

@PENG good to see you around!
I’m wondering if he had selected the Dolby Atmos enabled speaker setting. It uses a notch filter at 2k to help trick the mind into hearing sounds above from bouncy speakers. Not sure of actual physical setup.

Also, OP. The two different roll offs are, one is steeper and one is shallower with a gradual roll off. Steep can help with bright speakers if you find them too harsh.

Are you using physical height speakers? Or Dolby enabled reflective ones?
