Hey again guys!

You guys really helped me out on my subwoofer questions. Thanks to you, I have my 10 inch sub hooked up, and tuned in and it shakes my walls! Now I have one more question.

To refresh I have a Sony 2 channel receiver (100 watts per channel)... You guys advised me on how to hook a sub up to such a set up (using crossover). My receiver has room for two sets of speakers (four total, A and B). The receiver allows you to play all four speakers together if you choose. Here is my question: On Channel A, I have two 100 watt Sony Floor Speakers. I want to hook up a Center on Channel B: The Center I found is:

CERWIN VEGA VE-5C HOME THEATER CENTER STEREO SPEAKER | eBay

That is a total of roughly three hundred watts (between speakers A and B) on a two hundred watt receiver. Do you think it can handle it? Will it sound like S****? I'm a total rookie here. Hindsight, 20/20, I should have bought a 7.1 system for christmas instead of a two channel. I wouldn't have thought I would get so addicted though, and i don't have the funds for a different receiver.... Thanks!

Hi, again!

First - yes, the receiver can handle it. The speaker rating doesn't mean that's how much it's drawing...it's supposed to be a measure of how much it can take.

That said, will is sound like s**t? Well...maybe. The center channel speaker will connect to either the left or right speaker output on the receiver, so it will only be playing one side of the sound. So, you'd be better off buying two smaller speakers that you could connect to the left and right speaker terminals. Okay, let's say that you do that - what does it get you? IMO, not much. The center channel role is to help center dialogue on the screen. If you are sitting in between the front left/right speakers when listening, dialogue that should be centered should sound centered anyway because of the stereo imaging. If you are sitting off to the side, then a center channel would help if your receiver was actually sending dialogue there - but your receiver won't be. It'll be playing the same sounds as your other left/right speakers (if you get two speakers for the "center"), so I don't think that it's really going to help center anything very well.

Did any of that make sense? I kind of shortcutted some of the explanation.

Made perfect sense. That was what I was afraid of, I wanted a center for dialogue. I'll just be happy with what i have!!!
