ok, i am in the market for a new avr. been looking at the yamaha 2000a, onkyo nr 1008 or 3008 and also the denon 3311. here is my situation and question. in the living room i have my main tv and surround system. on my deck i also have a tv with a pair of outdoor speakers. what i need to know is will any of these avr's run both at the same time. they all seem to have 2 hdmi outs but are they independent. i basically need to run separate l+r audio and video to the deck (zone2)...... this way someone can be outside watching something different than the person inside the house.

Hi Jim and welcome to the forum.

There are no receivers out right now that have two independent HDMI outputs that will play different sources. What you can do it find a model that has component outputs to zone 2. Then connect your sources via HDMI for the main room and component/analog for your second zone. This way you can be watching two different sources in either room and still have HD on your deck.

If you connected your second monitor via the second HDMI output and tried to use the zone 2 audio out there will be a huge delay in the sound so you would have severe lip sync issues.

hey thanks for the reply. well i bit the bullet and ordered the onkyo nr1008. i dont believe it has component out to zone 2. i cant really tell by the specs. it seems that for almost every brand reciever, when looking at the specs they are always a little vague about additional zones and what they will and wont do. well i guess if worse comes to worse i will run the deck tv the old fashoned way....some splitters a bit of creative wiring and manual input changes on the tv. the whole thing would be so nice and neat though with just a few hdmi cables to connect the whole system.

I doubt there are many receivers with component video outputs for the second zone, and the ones that have it I expect are mostly the upper tier of the product lines. You’ll probably have to be happy using S video for the second zone. That’s not hard to find, but not the NR1080.

Alternately, you could send a video feed from each component to the deck TV and switch its inputs between them.
