I recently purchased an emotiva UPA-5 amplifier. My front speakers I know can handle the continuous power that the amplifier is putting out but I am worried about my surrounds the satellites from the klipsch quintet III. I don't plan on buying anything else until I start working on my dedicated room.

Just use the volume button carefully and remove teh fuse from the amp when you leave the house. :p Seriously, just be careful and you should be OK.

This is the first time using an external amp, can i just use my yamaha's internal amp or would that cause issues?

Yes, you can use the yammie's internal amp for those speakers. Just keep 'em connected to the receiver and don't connect those channels to the external amp.

Be sure to rebalance all the channel's volume when you do this.
