Can someone chime in oh the difference between the versions of HDMI and how they work? Also will it be possible to upgrade the previous versions via software upgrade or will it be necessary to purchase a new dvd player? Thanks for any advice.

There is not much Consumer related information there. Mostly just telling me to go to the individual mfg for info. Thanks

jaxvon, I just went to the site you posted in your first response and already read the faq section. If you have already read it you know as I do now that it does not answer my questions. Thanks

HDMI Info for Ya

Howie,
If you go to that website, and check out the press release on the HDMI 1.2 it tell you what new stuff the 1.2 has, and why they think it is better. It also states that everything that has the new HDMI 1.2 must be backwards compatable. So the old HDMI will work on the New HDMI stuff.

Press Release Link:

Testing Policies to get HDMI Link:

And some good reading about HDMI:

Hope that helps out bro.

Blessed,

Yea I got most of that already I guess I am just a bit confused about the different versions and how if I cannot trasmit sacd over my current version, and supposedly the new version will, then how do I get my player with the older version to then transmit sacd?? It seems an upgrade of some type will be necessary. Would that upgrade be a firmware or software type etc? I have already contacted the mfg of my dvd player to ask that question which is what that website suggested. Thanks for all the help.

The versions are supposed to be backwards compatable but they are not forwards compatable. In other words, if you use HDMI 1.1 you can connect it to a device that supports 1.2 but you won't magically get the new features of 1.2.

The only way to get your older player to transmit sacd would be to have that player upgraded to support the newer version of hdmi. IF that can be done and whether it is done by firmware or software update depends on the implementation of the player. Contacting the manufacturer of the player is the only way to find out.
