Question about free speakers

So I picked these up for free (Facebook Buy Nothing group) tonight. They look to be home-built. Any idea on the age of these? All I can see is an adjustment for the tweeter and horn (I think). I'm thinking of connecting these to an old 2.1 system I have in my office or in our garage.

The couple I got these from told me they could hear them being blasted from next door.

They don't have a brand name on them. Looks like a horn and a 10" woofer. They work but sound kind of flat. I'll likely replace them soon.

The rectangle at the bottom is open- close it and the bass may mysteriously show up.

Before you toss them, look for brand and model of the 10" woofers- if they're a name brand (JBL, Altec-Lansing, ElectroVoice, Fane, etc), guitar players will be interested. Other brands may be interesting to them, but you'll need to look online for them. Guitar forums will have info and you can post your own.

I am pretty sure that is an instrument speaker and not a domestic audio speaker. I have a feeling the driver may be a vintage JBL driver.

So take out that driver and see what it is. If it is by JBL then that driver would be worth about $300.00.

You are not going to make that speaker of any use for domestic audio.

When TLS Guy said they were instrument speakers, I think he was referring to the individual drivers, not the whole speaker cabinet. The drivers are mounted from the inside so I suspect that the back is removable. Remove the back and if the drivers have labels on them, post photos of the labels. We can then let you know if the drivers are worth anything or not, otherwise they have no monetary value but you are free to use them or pass them on.
